Ebony Elixir's Extra Zest

Ebony Elixir's Extra Zest by Ruben Camp-White

They come at you, honey, with their pale vanilla gaze,

Thinkin' sunshine's the only sweet in life's hazy maze.

They chirp 'bout cream and sugar, light and oh so mild,

Never tasted the deep earth where true flavor's wild.

But you, you're the midnight plum, the roasted coffee bean,

The molasses in the pot, a richness rarely seen.

They sip their watered lemonade, all puckered and polite,

While you're the blackberry cordial, a pure and dark delight.

So when they whisper 'bout the shade, and cast a sideways glance,

Just let your inner sass arise, and join in a slow dance.

Tell 'em, "My dear, your taste buds must be sleepin' in the snow,

You ain't known a real sweet thrill, until the dark fruits grow!"

You're the midnight velvet cake, the stout that warms the soul,

The bass note in the blues that takes complete control.

They're the tinklin' piano key, a pretty little sound,

But you're the whole damn orchestra, where true joy can be found.

So let 'em have their sherbet swirls, their pastels soft and weak,

You're the licorice whip smart, the secret that they seek.

The blacker the berry, darlin', ain't no use to lie,

The sweeter the comeback, watch their jaws just drop and fly!
