A true Poem of Resilience: I Was Born Black and Bold: Audiobook: I rise, I implore
I Was Born Black and Bold by Ruben White
In the garden of night, where stars flicker and tease,
I rise with the sun, oh, what a breeze.
Born from the grit where the struggles run deep,
Like a flower through concrete, I wake from my sleep.
If I was born black, a treasure, you claim?
Not a weight on my shoulders, but a spark, not a shame.
Like jazz on the corner, with rhythm and grace,
My heritage sways, and honey, I embrace.
Each shade of my skin tells a tale rich and true,
A melody woven, a history anew.
With a sway and a strut, I dance through the fray,
A symphony rising, come join in my play.
My laughter’s a river, fierce, wild, and free,
Resilient as mountains—just try and see me!
In the storms of my journey, I rise, I implore,
A testament living—what’d you think I’m for?
I welcome each challenge, let my spirit ignite,
For the world needs my fire, my sass, and my light.
Like the roots of the oak, I’m grounded and wide,
I stand in my truth, with a heart full of pride.
So I cherish my essence, let my heart sing loud,
In every heartbeat, I’m unbowed, unbowed.
If I was born black, let my spirit take flight,
I’m a masterpiece, darling, a beacon so bright.
