The Wings of Courage by Ruben White

Date: January 10th, 2025

Dear Journal,

Affirmations:

  • I am strong and capable.
  • I am worthy of love and happiness.
  • I am grateful for all the good in my life.
  • I am committed to my mental and emotional well-being.
  • I am brave enough to face my challenges.

Today, I find myself contemplating the nature of bravery. What does it truly mean to be courageous in an overwhelming and unpredictable world?

Bravery, I believe, is not the absence of fear, but rather the willingness to act despite it. It is the inner strength that allows us to confront our anxieties and insecurities, step outside our comfort zones, and embrace the unknown. It is the voice that whispers, "You can do this," even when our minds are screaming in protest.

I am reminded of the words from Isaiah 40:31: "But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint."1

This verse speaks to the profound connection between faith and courage. When we place our trust in a higher power, we tap into a wellspring of strength that transcends our own limitations. We are empowered to rise above our fears and soar on the wings of eagles, our spirits renewed, and our hearts filled with hope.

Bravery manifests itself in countless ways, both big and small. It is the courage to speak our truth, even when our voice trembles. It is the determination to pursue our dreams, even when the path seems uncertain. It is the compassion to reach out to others in need, even when we feel vulnerable ourselves.

I think of the firefighter rushing into a burning building, the soldier defending their country on the battlefield, the activist fighting for justice and equality. These individuals embody the epitome of bravery, risking their lives for the sake of others.

But bravery is not confined to grand gestures of heroism. It is also present in the everyday acts of courage that often go unnoticed. It is the single mother working tirelessly to provide for her children, the student overcoming adversity to achieve their academic goals, the individual battling a mental health condition with unwavering resilience.

In my own life, I have experienced the transformative power of bravery. There have been times when I have had to summon every ounce of courage within me to face my fears and overcome challenges.

I remember the anxiety I felt when I first started therapy, the vulnerability of sharing my deepest thoughts and feelings with a stranger. But I knew that I needed help, and I was determined to do the work necessary to heal.

It was not easy. There were days when I wanted to give up, to retreat back into the safety of my comfort zone. But I kept reminding myself of the words from Isaiah, and I drew strength from my faith.

Slowly but surely, I began to make progress. I learned to identify my triggers, to challenge my negative thoughts, and to develop healthy coping mechanisms. I discovered a resilience within myself that I never knew I possessed.

Today, I am grateful for the journey I have taken. I am proud of the courage I have shown in facing my demons and reclaiming my life. I know that I am not perfect, and that there will be challenges ahead. But I also know that I am strong enough to overcome them.

Bravery is not a destination, but a journey. It is a continuous process of growth and self-discovery. It is the willingness to embrace our imperfections, to learn from our mistakes, and to keep moving forward, even when the road is rough.

As I reflect on this day, I am filled with a sense of gratitude and hope. I am grateful for the people in my life who have supported me on my journey, and I am hopeful for the future that lies ahead.

I know that there will be times when I feel afraid when I doubt my own abilities. But I also know that I have the strength within me to persevere. I will continue to wait upon the Lord, to renew my strength, and to mount up with wings as eagles.

Moral of the Day: Bravery is not the absence of fear, but the willingness to act despite it. It is a journey of self-discovery and growth, fueled by faith and resilience. Embrace your fears, step outside your comfort zone, and soar on the wings of courage.
