My Advocacy for the Cohesive Excellence Initiative (CEI)
In my journey as an advocate for workplace equality, I have witnessed firsthand the shortcomings of zero tolerance policies during my time at Ford Motors in the early 2000s. Despite the intention behind these policies, they failed to provide the protection we needed against harassment and discrimination. My experiences led me to fight for diversity training, which ultimately resulted in an $8 billion investment in corporate America and education in March 2003. However, as I reflect on the current landscape, I realize that we need to take our efforts a step further.
With the new rules set forth for Project 2025 aiming to eliminate diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, I felt a pressing need to strategize a new concept: the Cohesive Excellence Initiative (CEI). It took time to develop this idea, but I am convinced it will be beneficial for everyone involved. CEI is crucial in today’s society as it addresses the pressing challenges of discrimination, polarization, and the urgent need for unity.
The Cohesive Excellence Initiative focuses on collaboration and shared values, emphasizing that our differences can be strengths rather than sources of division. By fostering a culture of cooperation, we can create environments where all voices are heard and valued. This initiative seeks to move beyond mere compliance with diversity policies and instead cultivate a genuine commitment to inclusivity.
Because of my fight for change at that time, my advocacy for diversity in the workplace paved the way for healing and transformation. This journey has been so impactful that it placed my story in the Civil Rights Movement section at the Atlanta History Center. I believe that sharing these experiences is vital to inspire others and highlight the ongoing struggle for equality.
In advocating for CEI, I aim to promote a framework where organizations and communities can work together towards a more equitable future. It is essential to recognize that the challenges we face today require collective action and understanding. By prioritizing cohesive excellence, we can bridge divides and build a stronger, more united society.
Reflecting on my past struggles, I am more determined than ever to champion this initiative. The fight for diversity and inclusion is far from over, and I believe that CEI represents a vital evolution in our approach. Together, we can create a world where everyone has the opportunity to thrive, free from the constraints of discrimination and division.
