"The Bird Outside My Window"(Mental Health Poem) by Ruben White
"The Bird Outside My Window" by
Ruben White
The bird outside my window sings,
With feathers like sunshine, and laughter on wings.
She chirps and she chatters with sass in
the air,
As if she's announcing, "I really
don't care!"
She hops on the branch, all puffy with
pride,
Like she owns the whole world—got nothing
to hide.
"Tweet-tweet,"
she insists, "Ain't life such a treat?
You sit there in pajamas, while I rule the
street!'
I tried to ignore her, I really did try,
But she winked with one eye like,
"You can't deny—
The morning is golden, the world's all
aglow,
Stop sulking, come join me, get up—let's
She sang, "Life's not perfect, but
boy, it's a ride!
So dance in the drizzle, not just when
it's dry.
You've got two good feet, so why not take
flight?
Stop waiting for 'perfect,' today feels
just right."
I rolled out of bed with a grumble and
frown,
She squawked, "Oh, come on—don't let
life get you down!
The clock's always ticking, the sun loves
to
shine,
And
problems? Honey, they're gone with a rhyme!"
Then off she flew, bold as you
please, Riding the wind like a breeze through the trees.
"Sing
loud! Fly high!" her last note declared,
"Life's too short for days
unprepared."
And there I stood, with a smile on my
face, Her song in my heart, her joy in my space. That bird outside my window
knew what to
say
—
"Don't wait for tomorrow; today is
the day!'
